Examples of conditions that give rise to law reform are:
*Changing Social Values
*New concepts of justice
*New technology
Changing social values
"Social values are the standards or principles that guide people in thinking about different aspects of society and underpinned beliefs of right and wrong". These values are not always on the same line as an 'individuals values', although they inspir and are inspired by an 'individuals judgement'.
As a society we have become more concious of the need to prevent discrimination, so the changing of social values is needed. For Example: 'legislations that previously disadvantaged certain groups has been removed and anti-discrimination laws have been put in place'.
As the existing law is no longer reflective of the communities social and ethical values, judicial decisions are being made by legislators and others.
New concepts of justice
There are three areas of consumer law in which new concepts of justice have been apparent.
These are:
*Consumer credit contracts: this code introduced the new concept that contracts should be clear and transparent. and example of this is that credit providers are now obliged to give acurately clear information to their clients before the contract is signed.
*Product Liability laws reflect the idea of justice in saying that people have the right to be compensated (paid or reimbursed) if they sustain injuries that where of no fault of their own.
*"There is a greater importance placed on the collection and use of Private information on citizens".
New Technology
New technology largely contributes to everyday life, but it also widely contributes to the law reform. The rapidly changing wourld of technology means that the legal system has to update its systems so that the laws can be viewed by a wide range of appliances. The creation of new technology means that new laws have to be made to apply to the specific technology. For example, when the first vmotorised vehicle was made new laws had to be inforced to ensure that the vehicle was being used safely and responsibly. Laws about ownership, licensing and eventually environmental protection where inforced. With all of the new technologies making there way into the world today, new laws are being enforced to keep people safe and help keep our environment healthy for years to come.
